What's different about this job
A four-inch base is fine in Riverside. At 6,750 feet with 40 freeze-thaw cycles a season, that base heaves and the field goes wavy in two winters. We build deeper and compact in lifts — it is the main reason valley installers' work fails up here.
What is included
- Excavation and compacted base in lifts, depth set by soil and exposure
- Bedding sand, edge restraint and polymeric joint sand
- Layout planned around snow shed from the roofline
- Drainage and surface slope away from the structure
- Heated-driveway conduit roughed in on request
Base first
See our field note on base depth for the full explanation. Short version: valley-floor base depth does not survive mountain freeze-thaw, and the difference in the quote is a few dollars a square foot against redoing the whole field.
Snow and plows
Tell us how the driveway gets cleared. A blade needs different edge restraint than a blower, and neither should be finding your paver edge in January.
Questions we hear
Will a plow tear it up?
Not if the edge restraint and base are right. Tell us if you plow or use a blower and we will set the field and edges accordingly.
